Health inequalities

Closing the health gap

Novartis work with partners and policymakers to deliver projects aimed at reducing health inequalities in order to enable quicker diagnosis and early intervention for people most likely to experience health issues.
We believe that through wider collaboration and partnerships, healthcare systems can achieve equity of care and improved population health.

Health equity

“Equity is the absence of unfair, avoidable or remediable differences among groups of people, whether those groups are defined socially, economically, demographically, or geographically or by other dimensions of inequality (e.g. sex, gender, ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation). Health is a fundamental human right. Health equity is achieved when everyone can attain their full potential for health and well-being.

Health inequalities are unfair gaps in health outcomes among different groups of people and yet there is so much opportunity for them to be avoided.

Health inequalities affect every corner of healthcare.

Novartis are working to change that.

Improving access to healthcare

By using Novartis UK capabilities in data and research, we can help identify population groups who are at the greatest risk of ill-health and identify opportunities to improve early diagnosis and intervention.

Enabling innovative models of care

By co-creating solutions to improve access to care and treatment, digital solutions and health literacy support for population groups who are at the greatest risk of ill-health.

Strengthening patient inclusion in clinical research

By working with our partners across the research ecosystem to improve patient inclusion in clinical research, so that patients from underserved backgrounds have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials - thereby developing a better understanding of the needs of underserved populations.

Capability building and knowledge transfer

By upskilling our staff to ensure that they are equipped to meaningfully engage and collaborate with healthcare systems, and co-produce initiatives designed to tackle health inequalities at system and place level.

The people making it happen

The Novartis health inequalities taskforce

They prioritise understanding patient experiences and service gaps to develop collaborative solutions. Additionally, they strive to promote a health equity mindset within Novartis UK. This approach inspires co-creation and implementation of solutions for that achieve health benefit for all.

In this video Pauline Hakutangwi, Launch Brand Lead, Cardiovascular Disease & Renal, discusses the importance of the Health Inequalities Taskforce as a platform for Novartis to discover and share solutions, and why we need better representation in clinical trials to address health inequalities.

Novartis UK have a Clinical Trial Diversity group, led by the medical team, to determine local strategy and tactics. Reach out to the taskforce for more details.
